The aim of this paper is to address the fraternal, intellectual and diplomatic connection between José María Vargas Vila (1860-1933) and Rubén Darío (1867-1916) via the letter of July 14, 1908 that the Colombian thinker wrote him to the Nicaraguan poet when both were in Spain. First is made the analysis of their friendship following the Rubén Darío book (1917) and other reference texts; then the letter is transcribed and get its meaning as an object of study in the field of Latin American intellectual history.
