Abstract

This article explores whether ecofeminist thought is part of the discourse of environmental associations. For this purpose, starting from the characterization of the corresponding epistemologies, the differences between the environmental worldviews in which the environmental movements are aligned are established at a theoretical level. The case studies in which the feminist discursive content is analyzed involve three national organizations based in Seville: SEObirdlife, Greenpeace and Ecologistas en Acción. The methodology is based on the comparative study of documents and press releases in addition to indepth interviews with spokespersons of the respective local groups. The results show that the SEObirdlife association, from a conservationist position, has no links with ecofeminism; Greenpeace, from a techno-efficient environmentalist orientation, offers a purely technical interpretation of the gender perspective; and Ecologistas en Acción, representing social environmentalism, demonstrates an incipient approach to ecofeminism.
