Abstract

The article focuses on the Sea View Hospital in Staten Island, New York City where African American nurses used to be on the front line battling tuberculosis in the first half of the 20th century. It shares the story of 92-year old Virginia Allen, who trained as a pediatric nurse's aide and later became a nurse at Sea View Hospital. It provides an overview of the hospital's architectural design and the informs about the plan to renovate the old Sea View staff House.
