Abstract

The pathologic diagnosis of HSIL does not usually pose significant diagnostic difficulty in routine practice, since the core histologic profile of HSIL has not changed substantially since its seminal descriptions. Keywords: high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion; VIN III; vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia; spongiosis; edema; severe dysplasia EN high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion VIN III vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia spongiosis edema severe dysplasia 1110 1114 5 09/12/23 20230901 NES 230901 Introduction High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion of the vulva [HSIL or vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) II or III] is the presumed precursor lesion to human papillomavirus [HPV]-associated vulvar invasive squamous cell carcinomas, with an estimated 10-year cumulative risk for vulvar invasive squamous cell carcinomas of about 9.7%.[1],[2] HSIL may display a variety of clinical appearances, some of which overlap with those of inflammatory disorders, necessitating tissue sampling to definitively characterize them, given the substantial differences in management between these 2 groups of disorders. High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, VIN III, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, spongiosis, edema, severe dysplasia. [Extracted from the article]
