Abstract
- An outlaw pursued by the sheriff of Nottingham, Robin sought shelter in Sherwood Forest where he, along with his band of trusted followers, robbed the rich and gave to the poor. I Robin Hood: Legend and Reality i makes an important contribution to the ongoing scholarly debate on the origins of this most famous of outlaws. Crook makes his case that Wetherby was the most likely proto-Robin, his offences being so notorious that a posse had been specially hired "to seek, take and behead Robert" (p. 232).
