Abstract

Indonesia represents a contrasting type of mobilization regime, in which individual candidates organize their own I ad hoc campaign teams i , through which they distribute micro-level benefits during electoral campaign periods using mainly private (not public) resources. As the authors illustrate with broker-survey data and anecdotes, distinguishing I local machine i regimes from I ad hoc team i regimes particularly enriches the comparative research by departing from the dichotomy of relational and single-shot clientelism.
