Abstract

The historical city of Tabriz, which has been home to the Turks for centuries, has been under the rule of many large or small states throughout its history due to economic, religious and geopolitical reasons. The city came under the rule of Islam with the second caliph Omar; reached the peak of its history with the Ilkhanid period -especially under the reign of Ghazan Khan- after the Seljuk, Ildenizid and Khwarazmian dynasties. Tabriz, which frequently changed hands between the rules of Jalayirids, Timurids and other Turkmen states in the later periods; unfortunately suffered many wars, destructions and earthquakes, and it has reached today by losing some of its historical traces. Today, it continues to be the fourth largest city in Iran, with a population of 4.5 million, the majority of which is Turks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
