Abstract
- A hybrid cooling tower is a modified tower that combine in work the dry and wet tower to take benefit of their advantages and reduce the losses of water. The performance of hybrid tower and its efficiency depends on the operation conditions. The decrease in the losses of water with increasing the cooling was studied in this work. A pilot hybrid tower containing a wet section and compact air-cooled heat exchanger was constructed. It was founded that the highly moist air leaving the wet section led to more efficient work of the dry section. The humidity ratio increment was about one seventh to that of the wet. The increase in the inlet temperature causes an increment in the temperature difference of about 75% in the wet section and more than 100% in the dry. The increase in the water flowrate causes a reduction in both humidity increment and the temperature difference. On the other hand, the increasing of air flowrate causes an enhancement of about 25% in the temperature difference, but this enhancement shifts the difference to be strong in the dry section than that in the wet section.
