Abstract

Absenteeism is defined as the professional's absence from work. Thus, considering that the nursing team represents the largest workforce in the hospital context, the aim of the study was to address the multifactorial aspects that involve absenteeism-illness of nursing professionals and its interface with the care work process. The method used in the construction of this study was the integrative literature review, whose data collection took place on the VHL-Virtual Health Library portal, opting for articles from the Latin American Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE) and Nursing Database (BDENF). The final sample consisted of 08 articles that showed that the absenteeism of the nursing team can change the hospital dynamics in several ways, such as: interruption of the provision of services and financial impacts, generating a drop in productivity, suspension of care or procedures, thus influencing the quality of care and patient safety. Thus, there is a need for continuous investigation of this theme in the different scenarios of the hospital context, aiming at a greater understanding of this phenomenon and its impacts on work organization, especially in the category of nursing workers.
