Abstract
- This paper proposes an improved version of Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) based phase locked loop (PLL). The conventional SRF-PLL structure is modified and made adaptive using a Least Means Square (LMS) algorithm. The benefit of the proposed scheme is that the tuning of proportional controller (PI) gain parameters can be achieved automatically without having to optimise these parameters manually. The PLL is utilised to track important electrical grid parameters such as phase angle, unit synchronisation templates and voltage magnitude. This performance study investigates several cases such as voltage sag/swell, wide frequency deviation, phase jump, presence of noise and harmonics in the supply voltage. The impact of constant and adaptive PI parameters influencing PLL performance is investigated. Finally, a fair comparison is presented which discusses the proposed adaptive SRF-PLL(ASRF-PLL), conventional fixed gain SRF-PLL, unit template-based synchronisation technique and Delayed Signal Cancellation based PLL (DSC-PLL).
