Abstract
- The article presents information on exploring graphs in a targeted oriented environment. The traditional study of graphs of algebraic equations emphasizes systematic investigation of one graph type at a time like lines, parabolas, circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, and so on. The incremental investigation of increasingly sophisticated graph types spans several years in the math curriculum, from pre-algebra through calculus. Green Globs and Graphing Equations has four components that allow students to study the correspondence between algebraic equations and their graphs. The Equation Grapher component works much like an elementary graphing calculator. Students enter an algebraic equation and the computer makes its graph. The Linear and Quadratic Graphs component presents students with graphs and asks them to deduce their algebraic equation.
