Abstract

Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) comprise several peptides that, by interacting with a family of FGF receptors, participate in brain development and contribute to neuronal repair and plasticity. Recent evidence suggests that the expression of FGFs is altered in mood disorders and can be regulated by psychotropic drugs. This provides further support to the notion that neurotrophic molecules might have a role in the etiology and treatment of mental disorders. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
