Abstract

The article investigates the fluoride permeation mechanism in the Fluc-Ec1 channel within liposomes using solid-state NMR and molecular dynamics simulations. It uncovers new fluoride binding sites in the channel's aqueous vestibules and identifies one as a water molecule. It also highlights a dynamic region in the channel, loop 1, and proposes a "water-mediated knock-on" mechanism for fluoride conduction.
