Abstract
- 【Objective】 The present paper aimed to understand the main pollinating insect species of Tamarix and their pollination efficiency. 【Method】 Taking T.ramosissima, T.arrceuthoides and T.hispida, which were widely distributed in Tarim Basin, as research object, the visiting behavior, visiting frequency and residence time of main pollinators of Tamarix were observed by site-specific investigation, and the amount of pollen carried on their body surface was measured by indoor microscopic examination. 【Result】 The main pollinators of Tamarix were Apis mellifera, Hylaeus mongolicus, Nomioides variegate, Sphecodes grahami and Megachile spissula. A.mellifera carried the highest amount of pollen, followed by M.spissula, and there was a significant difference between them (P<0.05). H.mongolicus carried the least amount of pollen. A.mellifera and M.spissula were larger in size, and usually moved quickly on the inflorescence when visiting flowers. During the visit, they had carding behavior, and concentrated the pollen on the body surface into the pollen basket. In this process, they scattered a large amount of pollen, which was beneficial to the pollination of Tamarix.【Conclution】 The pollen carrying capacity of different pollinators is related to body size, surface brush density and pollinating behavior. As body length increases, the insect’s ability to carry pollen increases accordingly. A.mellifera had the highest pollen-carrying capacity and their pollination efficiency is the highest.
