Abstract
- Written by João Guimarães Rosa and published in 1961, the short story “My uncle the Jaguar” remains a unique fictional text in the Brazilian Literature. By means of a monologue in a dialogical situation and written in an oral Portuguese entangled with expressions and words in Tupi, a becoming-jaguar of a previous jaguar-killer is progressively enacted. This jaguar killer finally recognizes the jaguars as his real folks, as his kinfolk. The article emphasizes the untamable character of Rosa’s short story and develops its antimetaphysical and political implications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
