DEVIR-ONÇA: “MEU TIO IAUARETÊ”, DE JOÃO GUIMARÃES ROSA.

Written by João Guimarães Rosa and published in 1961, the short story “My uncle the Jaguar” remains a unique fictional text in the Brazilian Literature. By means of a monologue in a dialogical situation and written in an oral Portuguese entangled with expressions and words in Tupi, a becoming-jaguar of a previous jaguar-killer is progressively enacted. This jaguar killer finally recognizes the jaguars as his real folks, as his kinfolk.
