Abstract
- In sociology of education it is not questioned that in societies like the Spanish there have been, at a general level and in recent decades, processes of educational expansion. But this expansion is compatible with opposite trends in terms of the evolution of the different educational opportunities of different social segments. To demonstrate it, and applying methods of urban sociology, the territorial representation of these inequalities is proposed through an indicator composed of school failure by neighborhoods in the city of Madrid, between 2001-2011, prepared with available data from the Population and Housing Census-INE. The results show that practically all areas categorized as vulnerable in this city, experience during the selected years phenomena of educational invariability of school failure and its reproduction. Therefore, it can be concluded that Madrid is a fragmented city, with structural imbalances, where the social sectors with the greatest margin of increase in educational achievement have barely advanced in the decade studied.
