Abstract

"From the tomb of Fernão Dias to the headwaters of Xingú" was the title of an article published in the newspaper A Noite, on August, 1943. The issue reported the endeavor that came to be known as the Roncador-Xingu Expedition, whose purpose was to create communication routes and promote the settlement into the vast Brazil interior regions. I use the newspaper's to reflect on some constructions about the extensive territories - beyond Tordesilhas -, and I also inquire images and paths narrated, which was approached in a continuous process of construction and reconstruction of imaginaries about its spaces.
