Abstract
- Sleep disorders are rated as one of the most bothersome symptoms in patients after cancer. The pathogenesis and individual causes of cancer-related sleep disorders have been unclear which makes specific diagnostics challenging. Changes in sleep quality are seldom part of an anamnesis in oncological settings. Early onset of treatment to avoid chronic sleep disorders is thus missed. Insomnia is often part of a symptom cluster that includes comorbidities such as depression, adjustment disorders, anxiety, cancer related fatigue and pain-syndromes. Due to many short and longterm symptoms in patients after cancer, these comorbidities sometimes are overseen. General treatment recommendations are not reasonable, because of individual combinations of sleep disruptive factors and different causes of sleep disorders. Early onsetted screenings in combination with automated assessments to record sleep disorders could be a promising approach to im - prove care and individual treatment of patients with/after cancer.
