Abstract
- Nowadays, with the developing technology, the media has become a tool that has an important role in the perception of many professions, thanks to its powerful functions. Especially in recent years, with food playing a central role in many movies, the relationship between movies, which is a media activity, and the gastronomy profession has become more and more important. When the literature is examined, it has been determined that there are not enough studies that measure the perception and attitudes of the gastronomy profession through media channels. In this context, the study aims to reveal the effect of a movie, which is a reflection of real life, on the perceptions and attitudes of students who have just started their gastronomy and culinary arts education and who do not have professional culinary experience. Accordingly, the interview technique was used within the framework of reception analysis, which is a qualitative method. The deliberate sampling method was preferred as the sampling method. Within the scope of the deliberate sampling method, a total of 20 students were selected among the 1st and 2nd-year students of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at Agri Ibrahim Cecen University. An interview form consisting of 7 open-ended questions was applied to these students to learn their perceptions and attitudes towards the gastronomy profession and their thoughts about the profession through the film. According to the answers given by the participants, it was determined that the film mostly affected the perspective of the profession. In addition, it has been observed that chefs think that the management style should be authoritative, that they think that the media plays an important role in the success of a restaurant or chef and that gourmets are important in professional development.
