Abstract
- We provide a commentary on the review paper by Leites and Benito‐Garzón (2023) about the value of the existing multisite provenance forest genetic trials for forecasting species distribution and forest tree responses in a changing world. Providing knowledge on forest tree species' genetic variation, phenotypic plasticity and genetic variation in plasticity to climate changes is essential for predicting forest tree species' responses to the ongoing changes. We made a claim for a quick and coordinated international effort to establish a next generation of multisite, range‐wide provenance forest genetic trials focused on forest resilience and responses to climate change.
