Abstract

The article reports on the water shortages and drought across Mesopotamia due to climate change and desertification. Other factors to water shortages include weak governance, reliance on wasteful irrigation techniques, population growth and increasing individual consumption. It describes the consequences of the drying of irrigation canals and rivers including extreme temperature, water scarcity, food shortages, end of farming and difficulty in dilution of wastewater.
