Abstract
- Examines the application of clinical research findings to model of treatment for mental health disorders. Importance of the primary care physician to the diagnosis of mental health disorders; Discussion of several goals for mental health treatment in primary care, including improvement of services and a focus on access to service for community members; Details of mental health care models focused on training medical personnel, ongoing specialized education for clinicians, collaboration between primary and specialist clinicians, and the creation of an effective referral process; Critique of the effectiveness of each model; Importance of developing mental health care policies drawn from evidence-based clinical practices.
