Abstract

Abstract: Prenatal stress has become a topic of increasing interest in the past few decades. The first studies examined the consequences of prenatal stress on pregnancy, and in particular the effect on prematurity and small birth weight. Based on animal studies, authors are currently interested in the effect of prenatal stress on fetal development but also on psychomotor and affective development. This article provides a literature review on the effect of prenatal stress in animal models and in humans. Then, the limits of these studies and new perspectives will be discussed.
