Abstract

The paper presents the results of the 2002-2003 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) conducted by the Statistics Indonesia, the National Family Planning Coordinating Board and the Ministry of Health, within the framework of the Demographic and Health Survey of ORC Macro. Data for the nationally representative IDHS were collected from 33,088 households and complete interviews were carried out among married women aged 15-49. In addition, men aged 15-54 were interviewed. The fieldwork took place from October 21 to April 9, 2003. The paper discusses the general characteristics of the surveyed population. Statistics are presented on fertility trends, knowledge, use and methods of contraception among the respondents. Also, the types of assistance during delivery are analyzed.
