Abstract

This article focuses on the need of governmental role to guide and manage the Claims Standards Council (CSC) of Great Britain, referring the public demand for the establishment of claims management companies. According to several researches, the public wants the speed and efficiency of a claims company coupled with the integrity of a law firm. Fundamental to this, suggestively, will be a lawyer-owned claims company with sound information technology structure and a commitment to an ethical and open way of doing business. This is what the newly formed company, Claims Direct Inc., reportedly, will look like when it is launched in the coming few months. The author appeals the government to back the CSC for putting extra efforts in the field. It is hoped that, the approval of this appeal will give the CSC the sense and power it needs to be taken seriously by law firms and insurers alike. The management service that CSC will provide is supposed to be backed also by the Law Society and the Financial Services Authority.
