Abstract

This text develops the thesis of the interrelation between society and the natural world, as a framework for understanding the COVID-19 pandemic. This interrelationship depends on the characteristics of the human and non-human actants. The analysis developed focus on those characteristics of the virus that have had the greatest impact on social life. Those characteristics of our society that are most directly related to the pandemic are highlighted: globalized, unequal, reflexive and risky, organized and individualized, and media. It shows how the pandemic has been governed in different ways over time, in what we can call adaptive gover - nance. The conclusions emphasize the importance of complex analyzes of the interrelationship between human and non-human actants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
