Abstract

In this paper, the mechanical behavior of recycled Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic in composite materials as a matrix with fiberglass as reinforcement is studied. The composite materials were prepared with three different volume fractions of fiberglass (0, 7.5 and 22.5%) using hand-lay up method at 150°C. Impact, bending and tensile tests were performed. The results showed that the change of volume fraction from 0 to 7.5% led to an increase in the impact strength, yield stress and ductility, although there was a slight, ineffective decrease in tensile strength and flexural strength. When the volume fraction was changed from 7.5 to 22.5%, lead to increases in the impact strength, flexural strength, tensile strength, yield stress, modulus of elasticity and ductility.
