Abstract

This article addresses part of the thinking on Education for Peace developed by Johan Galtung, who has been one of its main theoretical exponents. The article reads the author's main works and analyzes its most important categories. First, it presents the significant progress made in moving from a negative peace that assumed violence to be normal in human beings, to a positive peace that sees violence as something learned. It then discusses positive peace and the three forms of violence --direct, cultural and structural--, as well as their dimensions. Subsequently, the article focuses on the theory of the 3Rs, which is necessary to understand the possible paths to peace building in communities divided by war. Finally, the theory and method of conflict resolution is presented. We conclude that it is important to reflect theoretically on Peace Education, as well as the need to explore paths and re-read authors who have made valuable proposals, since, in countries like Colombia, the lack of conflict resolution in a polarized society makes the activation of new and old violence more and more palpable.
