Understanding the meaning of the Qurʾān in a correct way is highly important for the Muslims without any doubt. In this article we examined how some Turkish Qurʾān translations the word "ashey" which occurs in ten verses of the Qurʾān. This word is explained as the period between noon and sunset in the Arabic language litrature and tafsir books whereas it is translated as "evening" in most of the Qurʾān translations that we examined. We also investigated the usage of this word in ḥadīths and determined that even the text of several ḥadīths imply that the meaning of it corresponds to the time of ẕuhr and ʽasr prayers. The information provided in ḥadīth explanations and translations are in line with information in tafsirs and Arabic linguistics books. Eight verses from among ten verses in question also include another word which means the morning time. Two specific time periods in a day are mentioned in four verses out of these. These periods are also mentioned in the other four verses. Besides, these two words imply continuity as some scholars maintain. According to this second opinion, it may be appropriate to use the Turkish collocation "sabah akşam" in the translation of these four verses. However, there is some inconsistency between the explanations provided in Arabic linguistics, tafsirs, ḥadīth texts and explanations and the word "evening" that is used in the Turkish Qurʾān translations for the remaing six verses. We have provided some possible reasons for this situation in this article. Firstly, the fact that the meaning of the word "masā" in Turkish language has been used to express only evening time while it is used in several tafsirs to explain the word "ashey" by emphasizing that it covers the time space between noon and sunset or midnight. Secondly, the word "ashey" which has a specific meaning in Arabic has no equivalent word in Turkish language. As a result, the word "ashey" has often been referred as opposite of morning time.
