Abstract

Concept cartoons are two-dimensional graphical drawings that have proven to be one of today's important learning and teaching strategies in many studies. Concept cartoons can be used both in educational activities and in the evaluation of trainings. The aim of the research is to determine the general trends and possible deficiencies in scientific articles on concept cartoons in mathematics education. In order to achieve this aim, scientific articles on the use of concept cartoons in the field of mathematics education in Türkiye between the years 2006-2023 were examined. In this study, the "document review" method was used, which provides the opportunity to review the general trends and important results in a particular research area and to evaluate them as a whole. In the research, 28 scientific articles on concept cartoons in the field of mathematics education in Türkiye were examined. The data collected within the scope of the study were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The first scientific article on the use of concept cartoons in mathematics education in Türkiye was published in 2006. It was determined that the use of concept cartoons in the examined articles was carried out in order to determine the effect on various dependent variables such as academic achievement, attitude towards mathematics and anxiety. It was determined that most of the studies were conducted in the learning areas of "Numbers and operations" and "Geometry and measurement". It has been determined that the most preferred design in the studies is the quasi-experimental design. It was determined that a significant part of the research was carried out with secondary school students and the sample size was less than 100 people. Multiple-choice test, Likert-type scale and written opinion form were most frequently used as data collection tools in the studies. In the analysis of the data, descriptive analysis with t-test was mostly preferred. Based on the results of the studies examined, it was determined that the use of concept cartoons had positive effects on the variables examined, especially academic achievement and mathematical attitude. Future studies will include preparing and using concept cartoons with the participation of teachers and preservice teachers, and especially the 21st century. It is suggested that it be designed to examine the effects on different variables, including. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
