Abstract
- Introduction: Craniomandibular disorders are a significant cause of maxillofacial pain, resulting in alterations in the masticatory muscles and internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Purpose: This study aims to comprehensively review the existing literature on morphological changes associated with craniomandibular disorders using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and methods: The research was conducted in Medline and PubMed and focused on reviews regarding CBCT evaluation of morphological changes in craniomandibular disorders. Results and discussions: Sixteen full-text articles were assessed for eligibility, including 2 reviews and 14 systematic reviews, which provided consistent data on mandibular condyle, glenoid fossa and articular eminence. Conclusion: Temporomandibular components and associated structures showed statistically significant differences between the patients with craniomandibular disorders and healthy individuals.
