Abstract

This work has aimed to make a report of a case of packaged grains of Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek, 1954 (mung beans; Fabaceae) infestation by the insect plague Rhizopertha dominica (F.) (lesser grain borer) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae: Dinoderinae), into a dwelling of an urban area in Coro, Falcon state, north-western semiarid region of Venezuela. Insects were manually collected and identified by comparative external morphology with light microscopy. The infestation of V. radiata grains by R. dominica can potentially transport pathogenic microorganisms for humans and animals, as well as cause allergy events or canthariasis.
