Abstract

To assess the degree of frailty in the elderly assisted by Primary Health Care services, as well as characterize them in terms of sociodemographic variables, identify the occurrence of frailty and each domain of the EFS. An epidemiological, observational, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was carried out. Frailty was assessed using the Edmonton Frail Scale. The occurrence of frailty syndrome in 109 elderly people with a mean age of 71.5 ± 5.5 years was evaluated. It was observed that 23% were classified as vulnerable and 10% had some degree of frailty. Regarding the domains of the frailty scale, those that presented the highest occurrence were low physical performance, fair/poor health perception, feeling sad or depressed, difficulty controlling the sphincter, and functional dependence on two or more activities of daily living. The Edmonton Frailty Scale constitutes an important instrument in the investigation of the geriatric frailty syndrome within the PHC, as its domains can be listed and identified by professionals in the planning and implementation of the care process for the elderly accompanied.
