Abstract

Aim: To determine the correlation between the ADC values of liver lesions with the final results by imaging and histopathology. Material and methods: Non-probabilistic, retrospective, observational and cross-sectional study in the 2016-2019 period at Hospital Médica Sur, with 40 patients, affected liver segments. Diagnostic imaging and histopathology were evaluated, central tendency measures were used, percentages, as well as sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative predictive values. Results: 73 lesions were analyzed in 40 patients (21 women and 19 men) with an average age of 57.9 years; 69 of the 73 had an adequate diagnosis and only 4 different by biopsy. Segment VI was the most affected with 17 injuries, followed by V and VIII with 16 injuries. The lesions with the highest ADC value were hemangioma (1,711.18 x10-6 mm2/s), focal nodular hyperplasia (1,236.3 x10-6 mm2/s), and cholangitis (1,241 x10-6 mm2/s); with intermediate values liver adenoma (1,140 x10-6 mm2/s); the lesions that presented lower values were hepatocarcinoma (with values up to 479 x10-6 mm2/s), and cholangiocarcinoma (772.3 x10-6 mm2/s); the metastases showed fluctuating values from 800 x10-6 mm2/s to even 2,000 x10-6 mm2/s. Conclusions: An important correlation was found between the value of the ADC and the degree of malignancy of the lesions, however, the metastases presented variability in their value. The results are similar to the current literature, the results less than 1,000 x10-6 mm2/s correspond to potentially malignant lesions and those with an ADC value greater than 1,400 x10-6 mm2/s probably benign.
