Abstract

The article "Teaching Mapuzugun in Chile: Ecosonance as a Preparation for the Acquisition of the Indigenous Language" addresses the importance of ecosonance in the teaching of Mapuzugun in Chile. The research was conducted in a rural school in the La Araucanía Region, in collaboration with teachers and members of the Mapuche community. The results show that ecosonance, which involves the relationship between sound-action, onomatopoeia-toponymy, and nature-language, is fundamental for the teaching of the indigenous language. It is argued that these results present a necessary challenge to improve indigenous language programs in Chilean schools. [Extracted from the article]
