Abstract

The article examines the perception of stress and strain among police officers when working with juvenile repeat offenders and high-intensity offenders. A qualitative study shows that while the interviewed police officers do not explicitly report any strain, they do exhibit clear symptoms of stress, indicating psychological strain. Both police officers and social pedagogical professionals are exposed to above-average levels of strain. Working with juvenile repeat offenders and high-intensity offenders poses a challenge for both the police and social work. Individuals in high-risk professions such as police officers and social workers are at a higher risk of enduring stress and potential strain. The study was conducted with six police officers who have extensive experience working with juvenile repeat offenders and high-intensity offenders. The collaboration between the police and social work is also addressed, with barriers and mistrust between the two professional groups being mentioned. The police officers have various resources for coping with stress, such as psychosocial support teams and peer counseling. [Extracted from the article]
