Abstract

The continuous accumulation in theamount of industrial waste output and by-productsof industries and processing units,has made the handling of these wastes as a matter of important concern all over the globe. It has been noticed that the amount of scarce land required for waste filling is found less compared to the quantity of wastes generated and the nature of the wastes are also found to be harmful to the environment in all ways, hence it is essential that these wastes can be reused and recycled before its disposal in these lands. Waste Foundry Sand (WFS) is the waste sand that is generated from metal casting industries. It is used for a number of times within the industry and once it is found that is unfit for metal casting then it is thrown out as an unwanted material. The amount of WFS produced in India is nearly about 1.71 million tons annually. This sand that is used in metal casting has different properties compared to natural sand. The change in properties makes it useful for making of concreteby replacement for fine aggregates. Experimental proceedings are made out to check the feasibility of mechanical strength parameters of concrete composed of WFS as partial substitution in fine aggregates. The tests are conducted for various mixes of concrete at various proportions alternating the proportions of WFS with fine aggregates in the rate of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The mixes are tested for then cured for 7 & 28 days and they are examined for its corresponding properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
