Abstract

The article "Childhood deafness with associated disabilities (DA+): CODEPEH 2021 recommendations" presents recommendations for the management of deaf children with additional disabilities. The importance of early detection and appropriate treatment of deafness is highlighted, as well as the identification of other variables that can affect language development in these children. Different syndromes and disabilities associated with hearing loss in children are mentioned, such as Down syndrome, Usher syndrome, CHARGE syndrome, Treacher Collins syndrome, Waardenburg syndrome, and deafblindness. The association of hearing loss with autism spectrum disorder and other disabilities such as cognitive delay and cerebral palsy is also discussed. The article addresses the importance of considering associated disabilities in children with hearing loss and how this can affect their language development and communication. The importance of early intervention and interdisciplinary collaboration in the care of these children, as well as support and comprehensive care for families, is also mentioned. The article also analyzes the overlap between children with auditory processing disorders and other developmental disorders, and provides recommendations for early detection and intervention.
