Views and concerns about open notes: a survey of dermatology medical providers and staff.

We performed a post hoc analysis to characterize and compare the views and concerns of dermatology attendings, residents, nurses, and administrative staff on open notes. Medical personnel and staff generally expressed concerns of increased phone calls from patients, patients being offended, and patients being confused; notably, administrative staff held these concerns at lower rates. Greater support of open notes among nurses and administrative staff may be attributed to the ease of directing patients to notes when responding to questions from patients.
