Abstract

Global prevalence of diabetes, both type 1 (T1D) and type 2 (T2D) diabetes, continues to increase and is expected to reach beyond 700 million people by 2040.[1] Most of this increase in prevalence is in the emerging economies: Middle East,[1] China,[1] and India.[2] Similarly, the cost of caring for diabetes also has significantly increased in the past decade[2],[3] Unfortunately, social-economically disadvantaged individuals and minorities are not offered the same treatment options, and thus, have poor overall long-term health outcomes.[4] Fortunately, there have been significant developments in the technologies and therapeutic options for people with diabetes. Our predictions are that CGM will pretty much replace SMBG for insulin-requiring patients with diabetes, assuming cost is not a barrier. Diabetes Technol Ther. Although current clinical guidelines provide various treatment algorithms for diabetes management, they do not address the individual needs of each patient. [Extracted from the article]
