Abstract

I Ins and Outs, Ups and Downs i (2021) is a multi-layered silk habotai fabric environment which can be understood as a type of textile home or shrine, which considers family and fabric folding's, that reference "corporeal expressions of grief (Figure 6). I " i [5] Here, artist Shona Robin MacPherson uses thread to explore these local and lived ecologies through narrative, making the bodily, materially present. Imogen Mills has developed technical aptitude to both weaving and stitch and here she negotiates the tension, whereby the threads are, to use the expression, barely held by a thread. I Thread i presents a rich, and diverse collection of work, deliberately acknowledging the varied aesthetic, technical, material, thematic and conceptual choices of each practitioner; Shelly Goldsmith, Raisa Kabir, Shona Robin MacPherson, and Lasmin Salmon with contributions by two further emerging artists, Imogen Mills, and Siwan Thomas from Swansea College of Art.
