Abstract

This article analyses the discursive pattern of allo-repetition associated with the function of disagreement. The interest in this type of repetitions is not new (Bazzanella, 1993; Dumitrescu, 1990; Tannen, 1989), but there are few works that have addressed their study in a monographic way. In this sense, the present work is based on a corpus of colloquial conversations between relatives and friends. The aim of this research is describing linguistic features that help to identify this type of discursive patterns. In addition, we characterize the nature of the disagreements encoded by allo-repetitions. The results show that the presence of justification sequences, interrogative/exclamatory pronouns and discursive particles specialized in encoding surprise or reinforcement are highly frequent in this type of constructions to ensure the recipient makes a correct interpretation. Likewise, the disagreements initiated from allo-repetitions can be ascribed to the epistemic level (preferably). However, we have also observed examples where the disagreement is due to the way a message is encoded or the reject to the enunciative action of the previous turn. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
