Abstract

Strains P17 and P113 were isolated from animals hospitalized in the same clinic, whereas strain P112 was isolated from another veterinary clinic. Although carbapenems are not routinely used in veterinary medicine, reports of infection or colonization by carbapenemase-producing I Enterobacterales i and non-fermenters are increasing in companion animals worldwide.[[1], [3]] In Latin America, KPC-2-producing I Escherichia coli i ST648 and I Klebsiella pneumoniae i ST11 have been recently reported in dogs with urinary tract infections in Brazil.[5],[6] In this study, we report the emergence of the human-associated NDM-1-producing I Enterobacter hormaechei i clone ST136 as a pathogen of pets.
