Abstract

Novel azo ligand of indole namely, 3-(2-benzothiazolylazo)-indole (BTAI) was synthesized by coupling diazonium salt with indole. The BTAI ligand and its complexes of copper and palladium have been characterized by different techniques (1H-NMR, UV–Vis and FT-IR and spectral studies, elemental analysis (C.H.N.) and conductivity. Metal complexes were studied by using mole ratio as well magnetic susceptibility. The BTAI ligand is bidentate and copper complex is octahedral while palladium complex is square planer. The BTAI ligand exhibited potential properties as solvatochromic, photochromic and pH sensor. A category of hematological neoplastic diseases known as leukemia are associated with significant mortality rates across the globe. The objective of this study was to assess the antileukemic activity in vitro. The MTT experiments were carried out to determine the azo dye ligand of palladium's cytotoxicity on acute (HL60) myeloid leukemia cell lines as well as on normal Vero cell lines. The findings showed a strong antitumor activity (IC50 = 104.10 μg/mL) against HL60 cell lines versus 164.0 μg/mL against normal cell lines. The findings of this study imply that, HL-60 cells of Human leukemia experience higher levels of oxidative stress than the health cell of HdFn and the concentrations of MDA under the treatment with palladium complex decreased significant.
