Two new cockroaches (Dictyoptera: Ectobiidae) from Rovno amber.

Two fossil cockroaches belonging to the extinct genus Palaeosymploce gen. n. (P. aristovi sp. n.) and the extant genus Supella Shelford, 1911 (S. eocenica sp. n.) are described on the basis of males from Rovno amber. They are the first representatives of the family Ectobiidae Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1865 from the Eocene of Ukraine. The genus Palaeosymploce gen. n. is similar to the extant genus Symploce Hebard, 1916, but differs from it by structure of tegmina, e.g. more numerous branches M + CuA and comparatively wider medial and cubital fields. The closely related genus Symploce currently has an almost circumtropical distribution. Fossil representatives of this genus are known from Baltic amber. The extant representatives of the genus Supella are mostly restricted to the Afrotropical Region. Fossil representatives of Supella were present in Central America (Mexican (Chiapas) amber) and West Indies (Dominican amber). Supella eocenica sp. n. differs from all congeners by the absence of contrasting coloration of the pronotum and tegmina. A detailed morphological description of the new taxa is given and brief conclusions about the climate of Priabonian Rovno amber forest are suggested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
