Hepatocellular carcinoma（HCC), characterized by high malignancy and rapid development, is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world. In most cases the tumor is inoperable when diagnois is made. Therefore, non-surgical treatment plays an increasingly important role. Although the curative effect of hepatocellular carcinoma has made great progress in recent years with the development of drugs and the innovation of radiotherapy technology, the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma is still not ideal due to its high recurrence rate and frequent resistance to treatment. The development of hepatocellular carcinoma is the result of abnormal accumulation of multiple genes and cellular events. The autophagy dysregulation can cause the occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma. Autophagy is closely related to the occurrence and development, metastasis and recurrence, and resistance to treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. This paper aims to review the mechanisms of autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma and provide reference for future anti-tumor studies on autophagy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
