In the treatment of localized prostate cancer, active surveillance is selected for clinically insignificant cancer, and radical therapy is selected for significant cancer. However, there is a group of patients for whom neither treatment is sufficient in terms of both cancer control and quality of life maintenance. Focal therapy is expected to be a treatment for such cases. Reports from various authors on focal therapy have shown good short- to mid-term oncological results and excellent urinary control and sexual function. In Japan, the Japanese Urological Association issued "Guidelines for Clinical Evaluation of Medical Devices for Localized Treatment of Prostate Cancer" in April 2021, and it is expected that evidence for focal therapy will be accumulated in the future.
