Abstract
- Currently, many regions in Asia face the water shortage issue. In the regions where people do not have enough water per capita, food production and industrial development gets reduced. To fulfill increasing demand of water, some overlooked aspect of water harvesting like fog needs to be addressed. For India which already is under water shortage and is populated, fog nets can reduce the burden on physical resources to a large extent. Fog contains considerable amount of water, which can be collected with the use of any obstacle put in its flow path. Fog net is a mesh with size smaller than the water droplet size, which leads to trapping of water droplets in mesh. Collected water can be stored for further uses. Fog net technique can work successfully in the regions with high fog formation. A simple installation can efficiently provide the water for drinking or agriculture. Some models have been developed for predicting the fog water efficiency and fog collector efficiency. Lakhpat, a place near the western cost of Gujarat is considered as study area for this project as it is facing water problems like low water table, high salinity of ground water, lack of physical water resources etc. By analyzing the technique of water harvesting through fog nets and its efficacy in the study area, the method has positive results theoretically and may be used in the area.
