Abstract

The boundaries of the city are changing with the increase in the population of the city. Bridges are designed to provide crossing at the points where the borders are widened. In the study, bridges are discussed as a dynamic that affects the dialogue between the old and the new urban fabric. Water forms a border in the city and the bridges connecting the two regions define an intermediate space. A pedestrian bridge design study was carried out in the Hatuniye District of Amasya, which contains historical and natural elements. The 6-week architectural design workshop, aimed to establish a dialogue with the city of Amasya rather than considering the bridges only as a structural element. The bridges built later in the study area only provide transition and do not reflect the city's identity. The study aims to develop approaches that propose a new program rather than merely connecting bridge works in the context of establishing a relationship with the city. In the study, which aimed to develop a programmatic design initiative, more contact was made with Yeşilırmak. The focus has been on overcoming the boundaries created by topography and the potentials that the design can create at the points it meets. The connection points, which have an important place in the city's identity, are reinterpreted. Design approaches have been developed through the relationship of the designs to be made with the city. The method of the study was determined as two stages. In the first stage, the reflections of the relationship between the bridges and the city on the space and the effects they created on the city were presented to the students. In the second stage, the design approaches developed after the current urban situation are analyzed by evaluating group studies. The effects that the produced works can have on the contact points through the way they are expressed are discussed through student studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
