Abstract
- The Indonesian shortfin eel (Anguilla bicolor) is an eel species that inhabits the waters of Indonesia. Eel has a high nutrient, vitamin, and micronutrient content. It has been reported that eel contains secondary metabolites with anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and antiviral properties. Atherosclerosis is one of the diseases that can be caused by the inflammatory process. Atherosclerosis is a condition that occurs when plaque forms and thickens on the inner walls of blood vessels. The purpose of this study was to analyze in silico the anti-inflammatory potential of eel metabolites. The results indicated that Indonesian shortfin eel contains compounds with anti-inflammatory properties, particularly related to atherosclerosis. The compound 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine binds to NF-κb protein, thereby preventing an increase in endothelial cell permeability, the cause of chronic inflammation in atherosclerosis.
